A Chocolate Chip Swiss Roll is a variation of the classic Swiss roll cake, but with a chocolate chip twist! Typically, a Swiss roll is a sponge cake that’s baked, then rolled up with a filling like whipped cream or chocolate ganache. The chocolate chip version would include chocolate chips either in the cake batter or in the filling, adding a delicious burst of chocolate flavor.

Here’s a quick overview of what a Chocolate Chip Swiss Roll might look like:

Ingredients:

  • For the Cake:

    • 4 large eggs

    • 1 cup all-purpose flour

    • 1/2 cup sugar

    • 1 tsp vanilla extract

    • 1/4 tsp baking powder

    • A pinch of salt

    • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (folded into the batter)

  • For the Filling:

    • 1/2 cup heavy cream

    • 2 tbsp powdered sugar

    • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

    • 1/4 cup chocolate chips (melted)

Directions:

  1. Prepare the Cake:

    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper.

    • In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 5 minutes).

    • Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together and fold them gently into the egg mixture.

    • Add in the vanilla extract and mini chocolate chips, and mix gently.

    • Spread the batter evenly onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10–12 minutes or until the cake is lightly golden and springs back when touched.

  2. Roll the Cake:

    • Once baked, let the cake cool slightly (about 5 minutes), then carefully roll it up with the parchment paper still attached to prevent cracking. Let it cool completely in the rolled-up position.

  3. Make the Filling:

    • In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.

    • Gently fold in the melted chocolate chips, ensuring it's smooth and creamy.

  4. Assemble the Roll:

    • Unroll the cooled cake and spread the chocolate chip cream filling evenly on top.

    • Carefully roll the cake back up (remove the parchment paper as you go), and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to set the filling.

  5. Serve:

    • Slice into rounds, and enjoy the chocolate chip goodness!
